Play Time: 32 hours
Jul. 7th 2015: Rocket League, a vehicular soccer game, developed and published by Psyonix, was released for Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 4. Later on, the video game was also available for Xbox One, macOS, Nintendo Switch and Linux. With approximately 65 000 downloads on Steam it’s not even that unpopular.
How the game works:
Like I said, you can describe it as a game, where you drive a car and try to push a ball into the opponents goal. You can pick up nitro from the field and use it to move faster. You can choose if u want to play single- or multiplayer. There are also two different main modi: Standard and Rumble. When you play Rumble, you get a new item every 10 seconds. That can be one, to help you, or to manipulate you enemies.
Besides that, you can go into your garage and customize you vehicle. With new color, stickers, your nitro „flames“ and many other things as well.
Mechanics:
Of course you can drive faster and slower — depending on how hard you hit your right trigger
button –, give yourself a boost with nitro, jump, and you can do a flip. If you can time it right, you can even fly as well by jumping and giving yourself nitro.
Of course you can die: when you get hit very hard by an enemy, the chance exists, that you explode and spawn after roughly 2 seconds next to your own goal.
Graphics:
I personally love the graphics of Rocket League. It’s realistic, but the colors shine and are just beautiful. The Animations let the game seem very alive and give the last cut. Especially the nitro animations are fantastic and stunning to look at.
Conclusion / Own Opinion:
Concise you could say, it’s a solid game with a super color palette and great mechanics. But it can get pretty boring quite fast. I don’t think it’s worth 20$, but I would definitely recommend it, if it’s on sale.
My score: 6.5/ 10
